Bill McClatchie studied medicine at Imperial College, graduating in 2003. He joined the Hammersmith Basic Surgical Training program where he underwent training in Orthopaedics, General Surgery and Neurosurgery. At the same time he studied for a Masters degree in Surgical Technology at Imperial College, which was awarded in 2008. He received a distinction for his dissertation on the treatment of periprosthetic fractures of the femur.
He joined the South West Thames Higher Surgical Training rotation in 2008 where he developed his interest in hip and knee surgery. After undergoing comprehensive training he undertook a fellowship in Hip and Knee Surgery in Cambridge and London with Mr Richard Villar and Mr Ali Bajwa. Along with arthroplasty he carried out research on arthroscopic treatment of soft tissue injuries to the hip and knee.
